The Ring-necked Parrakeet is probably the oldest domesticated member
of the parrot family. It has been kept from ancient times being
kept by rulers, including Alexander the Great.
This book examines the history, explains the different species and
gives details on how these very interesting parrakeets can be
managed. It is well illustrated, including 16 pages in colour,
which include many of the new mutations.
Foreword - New Edition:
This is an introduction to the most popular of Parrots - the
Ring-Necked Parrakeets. In India they are regarded as a pest and
scavenger, but in other countries are kept and bred with great
enthusiasm.
The number of mutations continues to grow so that a book published
today is very quickly out of date. Moreover, there is no standard
terminology on the meaning of the various colours produced.
Assistance has been given on the information on the breeding of these
beautiful new colours. Bill and Robert Bolton and D.G. Gore were
most helpful, although they or others are not responsible for any
errors which might have occurred.
In this new edition the colour plates painted by Prue Francis are
included as before as well as a painting by R.A. Vowles, paintings by
Trestrail-McKenzie, and photographs from breeders.
For the latest colours readers are advised to watch out in the Avicultural magazines. J Batty.
